Switzerland Vignette 2026: Price & Validity
The Swiss motorway vignette 2026 officially costs CHF 40 and is from 1st December 2025 to 31st January 2027 valid. It doesn't matter whether you opt for the traditional sticker vignette or the digital one. E-Vignette decide – both options have the same official price and the same period of validity.
There are no daily, weekly or monthly vignettes for Switzerland. Anyone using a motorway or semi-motorway subject to the vignette requirement generally needs the annual vignette.

How much does the Swiss vignette cost for 2026?
The official selling price of the Swiss motorway vignette is CHF 40.
This price applies to both:
- the electronic e-vignette
- the traditional adhesive vignette
So the e-vignette is no more expensive than the traditional windscreen vignette.
When ordering via a third-party provider, in addition to the official vignette price Service charges or processing fees apply. The Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) explicitly points out that such processing fees by third-party providers are permissible.

How long is the 2026 vignette valid?
The Swiss motorway vignette is referred to as an annual vignette, but is actually Valid for 14 months.
The 2026 vignette is valid:
from 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2027.
You can therefore use a 2026 vignette as early as December 2025 and continue to use it until the end of January 2027.
The validity period is with the e-vignette and the sticker vignette are identical.
When do I need to buy the 2027 vignette?
If you already own a 2026 vignette, you do not need to buy a new one immediately on 1 January 2027.
The 2026 vignette remains valid until:
31 January 2027
Valid.
If you from the 1 February 2027 wish to use a Swiss motorway or dual carriageway subject to the vignette, you will need the 2027 vignette.
Is there a daily or weekly vignette for Switzerland?
No. In Switzerland, there is currently no daily, weekly or monthly vignette for vehicles subject to the vignette requirement.
Even if you:
- just drive through Switzerland for a day
- are just passing through
- to go to Switzerland just for the weekend
- use the motorway only for a short distance
you need an annual vignette as soon as you use a road subject to the vignette requirement.
The official price remains CHF 40 – regardless of whether you use the vignette for a day or for the entire period of validity.
Is the e-vignette worth it even for a short trip?
The question arises particularly often for travellers who drive through Switzerland, for example from Germany to Italy or from France to Austria.
If your route goes via a Swiss motorway or expressway requiring a vignette leads, you also need a valid vignette even for a short transit.
There is no short-term vignette.
Those wishing to avoid roads subject to a vignette can generally choose a route via other roads. Depending on the route, however, this can take considerably longer.

Does the e-vignette cost more than the sticker vignette?
No. The official price for both variants is CHF 40.
The difference is not in the official vignette price, but in the type of registration.
E-Vignette
The electronic vignette is linked digitally with the number plate of the vehicle.
She doesn't have to:
- be stuck on the windscreen
- be removed after expiry
- be carried physically

The traditional vignette is attached to the vehicle. In the case of a passenger car, it is stuck to the inside of the windscreen.
Both vignettes entitle the holder to use the corresponding Swiss national roads subject to vignette requirements during their period of validity.

Can I use the 2026 vignette as early as December 2025?
Yes.
The The 2026 vignette is already valid from 1 December 2025.
This is particularly practical for people who travel to Switzerland in December and want to use Swiss motorways again the following year.
You therefore do not need to buy an additional 2025 vignette for December 2025, provided the 2026 vignette is already valid at the time of your journey.
What happens if I drive without a vignette?
Anyone who uses a Swiss national road subject to the vignette requirement without a valid vignette risks a Fine of CHF 200.
In addition to the fine, a valid tax disc must be purchased.
It is therefore worth while already before entering Switzerland to check whether the planned route uses roads that require a vignette and whether a valid vignette is available for the vehicle.
Does a trailer also need a vignette?
A trailer subject to vignette requirements generally requires a own vignette.
A typical example is a car with a caravan:
Towing vehicle: 1 Vignette
Caravan 1 additional vignette
A total of two vignettes are thus required in this example.
The same fundamentally applies regardless of whether you choose a physical vignette or an e-vignette.

What applies to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes?
Different regulations apply to heavy vehicles.
Vehicles with a maximum authorised mass of more than 3.5 tonnes are subject to the Swiss heavy vehicle fee rather than the standard motorway vignette, depending on the vehicle type.
This affects, for example, certain:
- heavy motorhomes
- lorry
- Buses
- heavy trailers
Therefore, before travelling with a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes, you should check which heavy vehicle fee applies to the respective vehicle.
